21.00
Hotel Babylon

You really wouldn't want to book in to Hotel Babylon tonight. First, the place is littered with the corpses of murder victims, which mysteriously disappear. If that doesn't put you off your canapes, the hotel's also overflowing with treasure hunters seeking a cache of emeralds that a master criminal claims, in his posthumously published memoirs, to have hidden in the hotel (watch out for the nod to Ashes to Ashes in the flashback sequence). The book is allegedly full of clues as to their precise location. Anna (Emma Pierson) stumbles across the first clue: "Find what's missing from black princess lake and you'll find the treasure that's yours to take" - "It's not exactly Yeats, is it?" comments James snootily before turning the place upside down in his search for the gems. To top it all, there's dotty old actress Constance Evergreen (played with a twinkle in her eye by Honor Blackman) wandering the corridors while her son goes off for a "business meeting". She takes a particular shine to Tony, who's up to something - but what? And there's more. Anna finally goes into labour and gives birth in one of the guest rooms. Very prettily she does it, too - she doesn't even smudge her lipstick, let alone break into a sweat. But the arrival of the baby's father (we won't spoil the surprise) and the schmaltzy ending are cheesier than a truckle of farmhouse cheddar. Radio Times reviewer - Jane Rackham

23.40
It's All Gone Pete Tong

Ibiza's rave scene is a fairly easy target for laughs in this mock documentary-style comedy drama from writer/director Michael Dowse, but there are too few of them in the story of a DJ who reaches the top only to discover he's going deaf. Paul Kaye delivers a credible performance as disc jockey Frankie Wilde, but his substance-abusing character is initially so loathsome that the viewer is unlikely to care whether he loses his hearing or suffers an overdose. Meanwhile, the satire of the Ibiza scene is not only obvious, but so belated that the film feels like a period piece. The movie later shifts gear and manages to generate some interest in its characters, which is largely due to the performances of Kaye and Beatriz Batarda, playing the woman who teaches Frankie to lip-read. But, by then, it's too late for this awkward amalgam of This is Spinal Tap and Children of a Lesser God.
