17.05
Hole in the Wall

EastEnders' Joe Swash and rugby star Austin Healey are the captains, as two silver-clad teams are transformed into human jigsaw pieces by trying to slot themselves through shapes in a moving wall. Radio 1's Comedy Dave, TV presenter Anne Diamond, soap villain John Altman and model Sophie Anderton are this week's celebrity contestants. Anton Du Beke is the host.

17.40
Madagascar

While not in the league as Shrek, this offering from DreamWorks Animation is serviceable family entertainment. Chris Rock and Ben Stiller provide the voices for Marty the zebra and Alex, a preening lion, who enjoy a comfortable existence in Manhattan's Central Park Zoo until Marty expresses a desire to return to the wild. What follows is a predictable but engaging series of mishaps that land the pair in Africa, along with anxious giraffe Melman (David Schwimmer) and straight-talking hippo Gloria (Jada Pinkett Smith). The pace drags a bit in the last third of the movie and the attempts to infuse Marty and Alex's relationship with pathos are just too half-hearted and curiously uninvolving. But the film is always marvellous to look at and the sight gags come thick and fast. Among the highlights are Sacha Baron Cohen (TV's Ali G) as the funky but quite mad King of the Lemurs and a pair of posh British monkeys who propose a unique form of literary criticism.

19.00
101 Ways to Leave a Gameshow

Plus, a policewoman from Yorkshire gets the chance to duet with opera star Lesley Garrett. Presented by John Barrowman.

20.50
The National Lottery: Saturday Draws

Irish duo Jedward perform their new single All the Small Things, and OJ Borg presents the Lotto, Dream Number and Thunderball draws.

21.00
Casualty

Not for the first time, Casualty lays on moving drama in the long-running storylines while the week's cases are, not to put too fine a point on it, thin and unconvincing. So let's concentrate on the bigger picture, where terminally ill Megan (Brenda Fricker) still hasn't got in touch with her old friend Charlie - nor he with her, despite the best efforts of Tess. When they do finally meet, Megan makes a devastating demand of Charlie that leaves him with a haunted look in his eyes and a hefty moral choice to make. Similarly big decisions await Lenny, whose interview for the fellowship gets entangled with the long-running drugs-trial imbroglio. Guest stars include Sarah Lam (also in tomorrow's Sherlock, coincidentally) and the late Geoffrey Hutchings in one of his last roles. Radio Times reviewer - David Butcher

21.50
John Bishop's Britain

Entertainment show in which the Liverpudlian comedian delves into subjects and themes that touch everyone's lives, including family, growing up, holidays, work, love and marriage. This week, Bill Oddie talks about his first kiss.

22.20
BBC News; Weather

22.40
Insomnia

Based on the 1997 Norwegian blockbuster of the same name, this skilfully directed psychodrama from Christopher Nolan (Memento) proves that hit European movies can be remade successfully. Alaska provides a visually arresting backdrop for an unhinged noir nightmare that sees hard-boiled LAPD detective Al Pacino sent to a small fishing town to investigate the brutal murder of a teenager. When he mistakenly kills his partner on a fudged stakeout and blames the hunted assassin (Robin Williams) who saw what he did, the killer blackmails him into pinning both deaths on someone else. And so a convoluted cat-and-mouse game begins with Pacino - terminally sleepless from the endless daylight - barely staying one-step ahead in the evidence-planting conspiracy while trying to conceal his own crime. Dwelling on the far more compelling issues of ethical decay and moral breakdown than the whodunnit aspects, Nolan's inventive thriller is intensely gripping throughout and sees Pacino on dynamite form.
