The Three Musketeers
Scripted by George MacDonald Fraser (of Flashman fame) with close reference to the Alexandre Dumas classic, this is a sparkling version of the famous duel between the all-for-one quartet and Cardinal Richelieu and his scheming accomplice, Milady. Michael York gives D'Artagnan a clever twist of yokel to contrast him with his more worldly companions, who are played with wit and charm by Oliver Reed, Richard Chamberlain and Frank Finlay. The action has all the pace and unpredictability one has come to expect from director Richard Lester, while the villainous intrigue is done to a crisp by Charlton Heston and Faye Dunaway. It's fast, furious and fun.
